How matching works

A few questions about what's hard, what you want to change, and who you'd feel comfortable with. We ask about you, not just your symptoms.

Our team assesses every answer and picks the right therapist for you, weighing expertise, style, personality and what you want to achieve.

Book around your life, with workbooks and resources in between. 50-minute sessions, all pay as you go and ranging from £65 to £120.
Good therapy isn't just access to a therapist. It's the right relationship, well supported, with psychology at every stage. Four things make the difference

We curate our team and are highly selective. Every therapist is qualified, registered and interviewed by us.
Built on personality, style and goals as well as clinical need, for a stronger relationship from session one.
Not a tech platform with therapy bolted on. Matching, support, onboarding, and platform is all psychologist-shaped.
Get in touch and a person answers. Technology removes friction; it never replaces the relationship.

Dr Holly Milmine (BSc, MA, DEdPsy) started Hive after a friend abandoned her search, not for lack of trying, but because the lists were endless and the letters after each name meant nothing.
Holly is a psychologist who understands that qualifications should play a part, but that psychology should shape every step after.
We know therapy can feel like a big commitment, both emotionally and financially. That's why we take extra care to connect you with the right therapist to ensure the best fit for your needs.

Deciding to commit to therapy can be daunting. We've tried to answer some of the more common questions here
It is how we match you, rather than leaving you to pick a name from a list. The questionnaire covers what is hard right now, what you want to change and who you would feel comfortable with. Someone in the team reads every answer and pairs you with the therapist we believe fits, usually within 24 hours.
There is no threshold you have to cross first. People come to us in crisis, and people come because something has felt slightly off for months. If it is affecting how you sleep, work, or relate to the people around you, that is reason enough to talk to someone.
Every therapist is qualified, insured, DBS checked and registered with the HCPC, BACP, UKCP or BPS, and each one is interviewed by us before they join. Your therapist's registration is shown on their profile, and you can check it yourself on that body's public register.
The type of therapy you need and the level of expertise it calls for. Sessions run from £65 to £120, all 50 minutes, and you pay as you go — counselling sits at the lower end of that range and specialist psychological therapy with a clinical psychologist at the higher end. You are told the rate before you book.
For most common difficulties, including anxiety and depression, the evidence puts online therapy on a par with seeing someone in a room. What matters far more than the medium is the relationship you have with your therapist — which is exactly what we match on.
Mostly talking about what brought you here. Your therapist will ask what is going on, what you have already tried and what you want to be different, and together you will agree how to work. There is nothing you need to prepare.
It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for six to eight sessions with something specific in mind; others stay longer with something more longstanding. You and your therapist review it as you go, and you are never tied in.
